Shirley Margaret Peterson

Summary

Shirley Margaret (Chadwick) Peterson, 74, passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest on April 4, 2024. She was born on July 28, 1949 in Beech Grove, Indiana to Pauline and Ralph Chadwick. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family above all else.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gary Peterson; daughters Tricia (Jason) Hill and Amanda (Bryan) Peterson-Long; grandchildren Sophia and Oliver Peterson, and Finley and Presley Hill; sisters Kathy Fitzgerald and Peggy Day, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Chadwick; mother, Pauline (Butterfield) Chadwick; brothers Howard and Jim Chadwick; sisters Barbra Miller; Patty Baumann, Sandy Chapman, and Sharon Wood.

Shirley was known for her generosity, kindness, sharp mind and strong will. She was charitable, always willing to help others, and fiercely protective of her loved ones. Shirley found joy in gardening, cooking, shopping, and spoiling her grandchildren.

A devout Catholic and devoted member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shirley had a strong faith in God and loved our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She attended school at Sacred Heart, graduating from Kennedy Memorial High School (originally Sacred Heart High School) in 1969.

Throughout her career, Shirley worked mostly as an administrative assistant at various companies. She was a dedicated employee, often going above and beyond her job duties. Shirley made many lifelong friends along the way that she deeply cared for. After retiring from IU Health, she began working 8 years ago at MacAllister Machinery, and was employed there until her death. Shirley had high regard for the MacAllister family and loved her job.

Shirley's presence will be deeply missed by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, friends, neighbors, co-workers and everyone else who knew her. While we mourn this incredible loss, we take comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the arms of our Lord.

We will always carry her memory in our hearts.

To honor Shirley’s memory, we are holding a celebration of her life on Saturday, June 22 at MacAllister Machinery, 6300 Southeastern Ave, Indpls, IN 46203 from 1-4pm. We invite anyone who knew Shirley to attend and remember her wonderful life. We encourage attendees to wear green, Shirley’s favorite color.

I was able to visit with Shirley Aug. 2023, when I was back in Greenwood and it was fun catching up with her. I had Shirley shake my hand and promise that after she retired she would come to Florida and visit, sadly that will not happen.
