Thomas D. Brown

Thomas D. Brown, 80, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025.

He was born on April 16, 1945, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Firman Thomas Brown and Mary Dorothy (Brombacher) Brown.

A talented basketball player, Thomas was a standout in high school and continued to earn recognition while serving in the U.S. Air Force, frequently appearing in local newspapers for his athletic achievements. After his military service, he graduated from the police academy and spent many years serving the people of Jersey City as a police officer. He later retired due to injury while serving in Braintree, Massachusetts.

In the next chapter of his life, Thomas earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology. He went on to have a meaningful career as a social worker, dedicating himself to helping the elderly and those in need access care and support. He worked closely with organizations like Meals on Wheels, continuing a lifelong commitment to caregiving—for both his community and those he loved.

Thomas enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, watching movies, and never lost his love for the game of basketball.

He is survived by his sons, Thomas D. Brown II and Richard M. Brown, and by his siblings, Dennis, Sandie, Debbie, and Kim.

Arrangements entrusted to Simple Cremation Indianapolis, 6904 S. East Street, Suite E, Indianapolis, IN, (317) 361-4516.

  1. I’ve been reminiscing about our childhood, living in Pennsylvania, Tom loved it there. We had a lot of fun. He was a character all his own. He was a tough master, very committed to his beliefs and could not be swayed. I will miss him but am at peace with his passing as he was ready. Love you Tom.
