Summary
Steve Dickey, 74, of Indianapolis, IN., passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife; his sons and their partners; and his grandchildren, following
an 18-month battle with colon cancer. Steve was born on Oct. 17, 1950, in Indianapolis, IN, and lived a life rooted in love, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. For 35 wonderful years, he shared his life with his wife, Shirley Dickey (Harcourt), who stood faithfully by his side through every triumph and
challenge. Steve was the proud father of three sons: Brandon Dickey (Laura Baker Dickey), Aaron Dickey (Isabella Markovski-Dickey), and Jacob Dickey. His family was the center of
his world.
Known for his genuine nature, thoughtful heart, and quick wit, Steve was a man who truly cared. He was a lifelong learner. He was curious, detail-oriented, and always eager to share
his stories, wisdom, and humor. Friends and family will remember him as the best storyteller and the best listener.
Earlier in life, Steve earned black belts in Taekwondo and Judo, demonstrating the discipline and perseverance that also defined his character. Beyond martial arts, his
passion was for people, investing time and care into everyone he met. He was deeply involved in his sons’ lives, serving as a soccer coach and mentor, not only to them but also
to countless friends who saw him as a father figure. His kindness and inclusivity left a mark on everyone he met.
An avid Indy sports fan, Steve’s enthusiasm for his hometown teams brought him joy and connection. Whether in the stands or cheering from home, his love for sports was
contagious.
Steve’s life was a testament to patience, generosity, and selflessness. He carried his Quaker faith close to his heart, rooted in humbleness and peace. His belief showed up in
his actions, where he carried himself with integrity and honesty. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather, and a role model whose warmth
will never be forgotten.
Steve is survived by his wife, Shirley Harcourt Dickey; his three sons and their partners: and his sisters, Laura Dickey Stuart (Don Stuart), and Carol Dickey Mize (Donell Mize). Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Barbara Ann Shackelford Dickey and Jack Elmer Dickey.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, at his home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or PBS, two
causes close to Steve’s heart.
