Thomas J. Miles, lovingly known as Tom, age 65, of Greencastle, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of October 16, 2025, at Hendricks County Hospital following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Tom was born on January 22, 1960, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Robert and Charlotte “Butch” Miles. A 1978 graduate of North Putnam High School, he proudly served his country as a member of the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army.
Over the years, Tom dedicated himself to a variety of roles in his professional life. He spent 21 years with the City of Greencastle, beginning on the trash truck and eventually rising to the position of Street Commissioner—a testament to his strong work ethic and commitment to his community. He also held leadership roles at Timberland Lumber Company and Heartland Automotive and later drove semi-trucks for Best Way. Tom concluded his working years in the Automotive Department at Walmart, from which he retired.
On June 27, 2009, Tom married the love of his life, Teresa (Moore) Miles. Together, they shared 16 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and family.
Tom had a deep love for the outdoors and found great joy in flower gardening, often tending both his own garden and his mother’s. His kindness, sense of humor, and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
Tom is survived by his devoted wife Teresa; his beloved mother Charlotte “Butch” Miles; his son Thomas J. “TJ” Miles; stepdaughter Pamela Monnett (Seth); stepsons Donald Kean (Emily) and David Kean (Jordan); and nine cherished grandchildren: Hallee Sillery, Caden Monnett, Bane Kean, Wrenlee Kean, Gatlon Kean, Bellamy Kean, Lilly Miles, Laihyla Miles, and Preston Miles. He also leaves behind his brothers Bob Miles (Andi) and Bill Miles (Kim); sisters Jackie Lawson, Cheryl Hunter (Richard), Gay Miles, and Brenda Custis (Donny); as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Miles, and his sister, Barbra Means.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor Tom’s memory and legacy.
