Carolyn June Bain, affectionately known as “Grammy” to her family and countless friends, passed away on June 16, 2026, at the age of 84 at Hancock Regional Hospital.
Born on August 2, 1941, in Salvisa, Kentucky, Carolyn was the beloved daughter of Elwood YaDon and Jenny M. (Phillips) YaDon.
On March 4, 1961, Carolyn married the love of her life, Tommy Bain. Together they shared nearly 26 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion until his passing in 1987.
Carolyn dedicated 21 years of service to Mentor Network, where she worked faithfully until retiring at the age of 74. Her work reflected the same compassion, patience, and kindness that defined every aspect of her life.
More than any title she held, Carolyn was known for her generous heart and unwavering love for others. She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with open arms, a warm smile, and a meal at her table. She was happiest when surrounded by family, preparing her famous home-cooked meals, packing snacks for those she loved, shopping for others, and making sure everyone felt cared for.
To know Carolyn was to know unconditional love. She embodied everything a grandmother should be—nurturing, selfless, comforting, and endlessly supportive. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. While many knew her as Carolyn, to those who loved her most, she will always simply be “Grammy.”
Carolyn is survived by her daughters, June Etta Rieskamp and her husband, Jeff, and Lisa Bain; her grandson, Cory Rieskamp, and his wife, Jordan; her great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Briggston, and Sable; her siblings, Brenda Morland and her husband, Gary, Deloris “Kookie” Koons, Marilyn Clark, Elwood YaDon and his wife, Valerie, and Beverly Hamill and her husband, Hugh; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tommy Bain; her parents, Elwood and Jenny M. (Phillips) YaDon; her brother, Bobby YaDon; and her sisters, Lillie Thompson and Patricia Lucas-David.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and loyal friend. Her kindness, generosity, and loving spirit touched the lives of everyone she met.
Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the traditions she passed down, and the immeasurable love she shared so freely. Carolyn will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Mt. Comfort Church. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Carolyn’s life, share memories, and celebrate the love and joy she brought to so many.
