Charles (Chuck) J. Berndt

Charles (Chuck) J. Berndt

Summary

Beloved husband, father, brother, union brother, Mason, and son: Charles (Chuck) J. Berndt passed away on Tuesday, December 12th, 2023, 5:30am at IU Hospital North at 67. He leaves behind Kathleen Smerling Berndt – wife; Hope Kathleen Berndt – offspring; Jason Christopher Acton – Hope’s partner; Raymond H. Berndt – brother; and Jeffery A. Smerling – brother-in-law. Chuck passed away as he lived: on his own terms and on the path of least resistance. He was born into a large Hungarian & German family in South Bend, IN, and some of his relatives still reside there.
To say he will be missed will be an understatement, as he leaves behind an echoing chasm within the forces of the labor movement and as well as the cosmic force of nerdom. Chuck was loved for his humor, cherished for his friendship and kindness, and respected for his fierce loyalty.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 15th, 2024, at UAW 933 union hall, 2320 South Tibbs Ave, Indianapolis IN, 46214, 3:30pm-6pm. Please join us at as you are, and in lieu of flowers consider supporting the UAW education department.
