Christopher D. Cavinder

Summary

Christopher D. Cavinder of Indianapolis, IN., born July 4, 1961 passed away at home on Monday, May 13, 2024 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was a friend to all and loved by all who knew him.

Chris graduated from Southport High School in 1980 along with so many other classmates that became the best of friends for all of these years. They all remained very close. Many years of camping trips, cookouts and getaways together. They were in constant contact with each other and they shared so many stories and memories of their cherished times together. He had THE BEST OF FRIENDS.

Chris graduated with printing skills that would later land him a 14 year position with The American Cancer Society. He also served 7 years in the Army National Guard where he met lifelong friends and made many more while working in the cable industry from which he retired.

Chris also had a passion for photography covering such subjects as his pets, nature, people and an array of bands. His greatest passion though was music which began in high school where he learned to play the upright bass. He went on to play with multiple local bands. He so dearly loved music and being a musician and learning how to run sound. He formed the locally well known band The Blend with a group of friends and was able to attend a final farewell performance on May 5th and this meant the world to him. Thanks to all who attended and made this possible.

Chris is survived by his wife of 14 years, Renee Mays-Cavinder; his mother, Marietta Cavinder; his sister, Sue Cavinder and his cousin Darrin Bond.

He is also survived by his step daughter, Crystal R. Carty (Mays) and her husband Anthony and his stepson James M. Skaggs. His grandchildren Peyton, Anthony Jr. and Bentley as well as his 4 brothers-in-law Tim, Brett, Brad and Justin. He was a huge animal lover and leaves behind his precious Sadie girl and Miss Kittie.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, Fred; brother, Lee and his beloved nephew Jason.

A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation to a local animal shelter in Chris' name.
