Summary
George Andrew Anderson was born on February 23, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana to John and Lena. He was the 6th of 7 children and the youngest boy.
Chick received his education from Crispus Attucks High School. As a teenager, he met the love of his life and in 1955, they married, and their union was blessed with five children. This year, they celebrated 69 years of marriage.
He worked for Red Cab and later he became a Sky Cap at the Weir Cook Airport (Indianapolis International Airport) where he retired after working there for 50 years. He was known for his professionalism and providing great curbside service. He retired from the airport on a Friday and started a new job the following Monday. Later, he worked at Walmart where he just could not believe they would pay him to just say “Good Morning” and “Welcome to Walmart”. There, he was known as Mr. George.
Dad loved bowling and fishing. He participated in bowling leagues all over the city for years and he enjoyed going fishing with the entire family. He was especially fond of fishing with his brother, Chuck. He liked spectator sports like football, baseball and basketball and he was always on the sidelines rooting his children on in whatever sport they played. After he retired, Dad became a bird watching enthusiast and often requested hard to find bougie seeds for his birds. Whatever Dad did seemed to attract Cardinals and they would wait on the fence for him to come out and feed them.
He was a man with many names - Chick, Uncle Chick, Mr. George, Paw Paw, Pops, and Dad. He was family-oriented, a hard worker, generous, loyal and honest. He was a trusted advisor to and rescuer of many and his presence will be missed.
He was a cancer survivor living the last 12 years of his life with 1 lung. He was tough!
On January 12, 2024, George “Chick” Andrew Anderson, Sr professed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Early Saturday morning, on May 11, 2024 at the age of 88, the Lord took him home to rest.
Chick was preceded in death by his parents, his eldest son (Jr) and 5 of his 6 siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 69 years, his 4 remaining children, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his sister, Dolly, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A Celebration of Life to honor Dad will be held at a later date.
