Summary
JOANNE KATHERINE TIGUE DWYER
June 18, 1924 – December 10, 2023
She was born in the Roaring ’20s, flourished into the 2020s and passed from this life to her eternal reward on December 10, 2023. She had 99 years and a life well lived.
Joanne (Joan) Katherine Tigue Dwyer came into this world in New York City on June 18, 1924, beginning a life that, remarkably, would touch the hearts of many. She and her family soon moved to Detroit, MI, where she pursued an interest in English and literature, graduating the University of Detroit Mercy and meeting her future husband while in college.
On November 20, 1948, Joanne married Thomas J. Dwyer, Jr., (deceased) and gave birth to the first of her six children in 1949. She was a fabulously energetic mother with a legendary sense of style, a tireless homemaker and a worthy competitor. Mom loved to play … ping-pong, shooting pool, card games, HORSE out on the driveway. She was a ‘game’ dame.
Mom loved golf, which she played from her early years into her early 90s. She was a ready golfer. No practice swings allowed. She addressed the ball and ‘whack’. If it didn’t always go far, it always went straight. Her approach shots were flawless and her putting spot on. (Yes, it was embarrassing to be beaten by a 90-year-old.)
Mom’s greatest passion was Bridge. She played with her core girlfriends for decades, right up to the last days of her life. Even Covid could not deter her. Mom learned to play Bridge online with her children across the country and around the globe. No such thing as too much Bridge.
Mom leaves behind all six of her children and we celebrate her life. Thomas J. Dwyer (Kiersten); James W. Dwyer; Dru D. OBryan (Robert); John T. Dwyer (Nancy); Jane D. Wenzel (David); and Barbara J Kovacs (Steve). Her grandchildren, Cassandra Tramm (Joe); TJ Dwyer (Amanda); Jennifer D Jones (Casey); Elizabeth Dwyer; John T Dwyer, Jr (Sheena); Drew Benjamin Dwyer (deceased). Her great-grandchildren, Levi, Tigue and Atticus Jones; Lexi and Ethan Litle; Nicholas and Joseph Dwyer; and Charlotte, Greyson and Emerson Tramm.
We thank the Staff of Compassus for their love and devotion to Mom on her journey home. Their commitment to comfort, peace and dignity for their patients is a gift from God.

To the beloved family of “Kitty”, it was truly an honor to be able to assist in her care at her Primary Care Physician’s office. Kitty and her children were always kind, friendly and just a joy to interact with. I have no doubt that was from a wonderful upbringing. I pray that God keeps you and your family in your time of need and always. Job well done Kitty!😘🙏🏽😇
