Summary

Melanie Lynn Hinman, 66, passed away surrounded by loved ones after her brave battle with cancer on May 28, 2024.

She was born in Indianapolis, IN and graduated from Northwest High School.

Melanie was employed by Pennsylvania Lumbermens (formerly with Indiana Lumbermens) for 46 years starting out as a policy typist, then becoming the Administrative Assistant for the President of Indiana Lumbermens, next moving to the accounting department and then joining the Customer Service department after which she was promoted to a Senior Customer Service Representative. She enjoyed her job and the people she worked with, sharing her abundant knowledge with her co-workers. She participated in the United Way Day of caring every year volunteering her time at Gleaners Food Bank and Second Helpings in Indianapolis. She loved working in her yard and had a beautiful flower and succulent garden that was given to her by her mother, years ago. She also loved collecting rocks and geodes that she proudly displayed in her front yard and office at home.

Melanie is survived by her sister, Lisa Pruett, niece Erin Tegegne, nephews, Chad Hinman, Bryan Pruett & wife Shannon Pruett, great nieces Gabrielle Shorter, Annabelle Pruett and Charlotte Pruett, her two cats Mable & Matilda and longtime friends including Darlene Love. She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Hinman, Mother, Jeanie Hinman, and brother Bobby Hinman.

Melanie’s family extends abundant gratitude to the caregivers at Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville, IN and Life’s Journey in Avon, IN for the wonderful care and support.

She will be missed by many, and we will carry her memory in our hearts.

There will be no service and in honor of Melanie, you can make a donation to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or your local animal Human Society or animal shelter.

  1. I met Melanie last year when I started working for PLM. She was a sweetheart and will be greatly missed my her co-workers. My condolences to her family and friends.

  5. So very sorry to hear of Melanie’s passing. I met her 25 years ago while working together @ Indiana Lumberman’s Insurance. With her incredible, delightful personality we hit it off right away and we remained good friends until her unfortunate early passing. She helped me out countless times servicing our ILM/PLM customers.
    I’m extremely happy we got together for dinner @ our fav. Restaurant Sullivan’s in Indianapolis last year. Great memories and laughter were shared at that dinner.

  6. Melanie was a great friend who was always smiling and willing to help me out. She worked hard to deliver superior service. I will miss our conversations about our cats. I will miss her friendship. My family sends our thoughts and prayers to her surviving family.

  8. My sympathy to Melanie’s family. She was a special woman with a great spirit and wealth of skill. We worked together at ILM. Melanie was always willing to help and share. She made lasting friendships along way. She will always be remembered.

  10. I have way too many memories with Melanie. We grew up in the same neighborhood, went to the same schools from kindergarten to high school. I just learned of her passing. Keeping her family in my prayers.
