Steven Lee Wilkening

Summary

Steven Lee Wilkening was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on November 17, 2024 after a courageous battle with Esophageal cancer. He was born to Donald and Shirley Wilkening on December 14, 1945 and lived his childhood in Wood Lake, Minnesota. Steve received a Bachelors of Art degree from Sioux Falls University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota. Shortly after graduating, he honorably served for 4 years in the US Army with a 13 month tour in Korea. He ended his military career having been promoted to Lieutenant and finally as a Captain.

Steve's career began as a CPA for Ernst and Young accounting firm and expanded to Regency Electronics and Hoosier Park Race Track where he retired from in 2007.

Steve's greatest accomplishment, as he would like to say, was his son, Chad Wilkening (Kerri) and daughter, Brooke WIlson (Micah). He took great pride in his four grandchildren; Jaden, Jack, Myla and Ben. He loved to attend all of the many sports and activities they were involved in and cherished every moment he got to spend with them. He is also survived by his brother, Roger (Patricia) Wilkening.

Steve was a quiet, humble soul who loved the library, reading, the Indianapolis Colts and his beloved New York Yankees. In the last months of his life, Steve regained a special friendship with his partner of 21 years, Joyce. He will be missed for his quiet, genuine, loving ways but our peace comes in knowing that we will meet again when we are called to Heaven. Go rest high on that mountain, Dad, your work on Earth is done.
